Monterey County Board of Education is the chartering authority for two charter schools:

• Monterey Bay Charter School (Grades K-8) is Site Based Instruction - the charter type is a “start-up” charter and the funding mode is direct. Another description for this charter is Waldorf Methods Charter

• Monterey County Home Charter School (Grades K-12) is an Independent Study Charter, the charter type is a “conversion” charter and the funding is direct. Another description for this charter is Home Independent Study
