Western Association of Schools and Colleges - WASC

MCHCS was visitied by a WASC Visiting Committee on March 17-20. WASC, a 501(c)(3) organization, is recognized as one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. MCHCS is happy to announce that we have received a six-year accreditation status through 2019.

Why Accreditation?

  • Certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning
  • Validates the integrity of a school’s program and student transcripts
  • Fosters improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning
  • Assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program
  • A way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment
  • Assists a school/district in establishing its priority areas for improvement as a result of the perpetual accreditation cycle

MCHCS is currently accredited through WASC, having recieved a six-year accreditation in 2007 and again in 2013.  In addition, MCHCS's charter was extended a 5-year renewal in 2012 (see newspaper article: "Monterey County Home Charter School Renewed").
