Attention Prospective Families:

Enrollment for the 2013-14 school year far exceeded our expectations!  Our school continues to grow like never before, and we expect that enrollment for the 2014-15 school year will surpass what we witnessed last year.  Enrollment space is limited, yet we can most likely accommodate families interested both in our homeschool and in our independent study programs.

If interested in enrolling in either our homeschool or independent study program, please be certain to attend our next information meeting, which will take place on Friday, October 24, 2014, at 3:00 p.m., in West Campus Building 8 at the Monterey County Office of Education. Parents and students must attend an information meeting as a requirement for admission. Please call (831) 755-0331 to register. Program information, enrollment requirements, and any other questions will be answered at the information meeting.

Enrollment at MCHCS is determined through a public random drawing (PRD), which occurs every Monday of the school year; if Monday is a holiday, then the PRD will take place on the next school day.  The next PRD is scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2014, at 3:30 p.m.  We will contact families within 72 hours of the PRD and inform them of the results pertaining to their student(s).

Western Association of Schools and Colleges - WASC

MCHCS was visitied by a WASC Visiting Committee on March 17-20. WASC, a 501(c)(3) organization, is recognized as one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. MCHCS is happy to announce that we have received a six-year accreditation status through 2019.

Why Accreditation?

  • Certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning
  • Validates the integrity of a school’s program and student transcripts
  • Fosters improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning
  • Assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program
  • A way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment
  • Assists a school/district in establishing its priority areas for improvement as a result of the perpetual accreditation cycle

MCHCS is currently accredited through WASC, having recieved a six-year accreditation in 2007 and again in 2013.  In addition, MCHCS's charter was extended a 5-year renewal in 2012 (see newspaper article: "Monterey County Home Charter School Renewed").
