Head Start Open for 2018 2019 School Year Enrollment

Thursday, Apr 12, 2018

The Monterey County Office of Education’s Head Start Program is currently enrolling preschool children for the 2018-2019 program year. Families with children of ages 0 to 5 are encouraged to apply. Children with special needs or disabilities are also welcome. Head Start Preschool classes will begin in August 2018. Early Head Start Home based services for children ages 0 to 3 will begin in July 2018.

Head Start provides an education program for preschool children ages 3 to 5 years. The programs offer part-day and full-day opportunities for children and families throughout Monterey County.

Head Start believes that the parent is the child’s first and most important teacher and depends upon parent engagement and participation in forming a successful partnership in the education of a child. In addition, every child enrolled in Head Start is involved in a variety of learning experiences which fosters intellectual, social, and emotional growth.

In Head Start, children learn to:
• Become learners in early literacy, writing and math
• Become socially and emotionally confident
• Develop self-confidence and initiative
• Develop physical development skills through outdoor play

In Head Start, parents receive the following services:
• Individualized family support services
• Monthly parent meetings/trainings
• Volunteer/Career opportunities
• Participate in family goal-setting
